carinacapp Angus Glen 10 Miler (16K). 1:44:48, my personal worst race. One year ago I hadn't even run 10K in one go. Next month, on May 25 I'll have been running regularly for a year AND I'll be able to say that I completed two half marathons. Not every run or race is a great one, but getting out there, setting + meeting goals, and being loyal to a running routine is the success of running. Every run (even the slow, never ending ones) only make you better for the next...onto the next! 1w

carinacapp When I tell people that I work in schools a common reaction is that it must be hard to capture young people's attention with all that they are exposed to through social media. They also say that they are so glad they grew up without Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other platforms. We can't think like this --we must empower young people to use technology for learning and for social change. Little girls must be told that they can do whatever they want... we must give young people the tools to succeed. There are barriers for women, but when we work together (with men too) we can lessen or even eliminate the barriers. Young girls can achieve their dreams and it is our duty to ensure they visualize them. #InternationalWomensDay 1mon

carinacapp Day 22 of #justbepresent -- Eka Pada Koundinyasana (twisted one legged arm balance pose). Didn't think I'd do it, but I did! People can surprise you and you can surprise yourself. You can try, try, try, and then boom all of the sudden something clicks and it works out. This isn't just with fitness and yoga, but it's true in many aspects of our lives...don't give up. Try in many different ways. Reevaluating the road map to achieve goals is key to reaching the destination.

carinacapp Day 20 of the #justbepresent challenge -- Sirsasana (headstand pose). Wasn't so happy about my belly showing, but I guess it worked out because poses like these require some core strength. My favourite core strength exercise is the plank...just lift your like you're doing a push up and hold. Make sure that your body forms a straight line and that your hands and arms are directly under your shoulders. Hope some of these tips are helpful

carinacapp Day 19 of #justbepresent -- Baby Hopper, a variation of Grasshopper pose. It's a great hip opener. We can carry a lot of stress in our hips...stretching our hips can release that stress, making us feel more comfortable than we even knew we could feel. Sometimes when I stretch or do yoga, I don't realize how tight some of my muscles are until I stretch them. This is exactly how yoga can keep you aware of your body. Have a wonderful last weekend before Christmas! Take 5 to stretch

carinacapp Day 17 of #justbepresent -- Sirsasana (tripod headstand) is an inversion pose. Inversions can be scary to try, but with practice they're fun. Inversions, like headstands, benefit the circulatory system and organs. They help blood flow and reducing the pull of gravity on the organs allows for detoxification. If this kind of pose isn't for you, you can receive some of the same benefits by laying on the floor with your legs up against the wall so that your body is in an L-shape --hold the pose for at least a minute...it's great to relax yourself before going to sleep.
