  •   jessica__stark That. Is. Awesome. 4mon
  •   wendyco714 Those seem very small brain slides for a rat. Are they just images or actual tissue ?! 4mon
  •   carebear1107 @wendyco714 our surgical equipment is pretty standard...so the rats are typically no larger than 380 grams. If you are seeing bigger brain slides perhaps they are rats not undergoing behavioral testing prior to brain extraction? Either way, I perfused this one myself, so yes real tissue lol! 4mon
  •   wendyco714 Omg that sounds like tedious work! I can't imagine taking slides from such tiny tissue and preserving the structure. That's wicked!! 4mon
  •   carebear1107 With our awesome equipment and careful hands it's totally doable! This particular brain was very tedious though...to practice they put all individual slices of tissue together (top left pic...each well holds an entire rat brain), then had me sort it and put it in correct order from start to finish (the top right and bottom left pics). THEN I was able to mount the tissue onto the slides. It took forever but great learning experience. I'm very lucky to be a part of this lab! @wendyco714 4mon
  •   carebear1107 To have me practice** I should have said...the people I work with can do it much faster than I! 4mon
  •   wendyco714 That's very cool. It's crazy how different the technique sounds. I handle just normal tissue for making slides and staining. The machine is not very tech-friendly :/ lol @carebear1107 you'll get the swing of it and get much faster soon enough!! 4mon
  •   carebear1107 Yeah for sure! I'm off today but when I go in on Monday I'll send you a pic of what we use @wendyco714 4mon
