caliberlee it's pretty accurate. Whites are comfortable with white privilege so they will never see it. The system that oppresses us uplifts them. Why would they give that up? caliberlee "We have seven biological children, ranging in age from 20 to 32. We have an adopted daughter from Ecuador and four #AfricanAmerican children who were adopted ranging in age from 6 to 10. We also have an African-American son-in-law.

My wife, the youngest four children, and I moved to St. Louis in July 2014, just before the Michael Brown Jr. death in nearby #Ferguson, #Missouri #mikeBrown

Not too long ago, our 9-year-old son David asked why we did not have a “#BlackLivesMatter” sign in our yard. A valid question.
Several weeks later, we had secured a sign, which we put on display in our front yard. #StLouis.

On June 30, one of my young adult and #white daughters was sitting on the front porch when a middle-aged white gentleman came walking by. He gestured to the sign and said to my daughter, “They never have and they never will.” She sat flummoxed and unable to respond as the stranger proceeded on his way.

Later that evening, my wife, two of our young adult white daughters, and I were sitting on the porch when another middle-aged white gentleman came running by. He stopped, looked up at us on the porch, and asked, “Don’t all lives matter?” We responded surely, all lives matter, but at this time in our history, given what is happening in our country, and given the racial make-up of our family, that special attention needed to be paid to the plight of black Americans, especially black young men who seem to be targeted by law enforcement.

He responded that he recently attended his son’s graduation from Washington University in St. Louis, and he seemed to be put off by the fact that Ken Burns, the commencement speaker, drew a standing ovation when he invoked “Black Lives Matter.” We went back and forth with him a little, and he ended with something like, “I hope middle-aged white male lives matter as well.” I have to admit that my emotions ranged from outraged to really ticked off to contemplative as I sought to understand what had happened. The exchange has led me to pen this reflection. BLACK LIVES MATTER MORE THAN EVER!

  •   caliberlee Unlike other #immigrants to the United States, our #black #brothers and #sisters were #enslaved for several hundred years. Lest we forget, they were granted basic #civilRights less than 50 years ago. There are descendants of families remaining who fought to uphold the institution of #slavery which was abolished during the Lincoln administration still alive today.

    Black lives matter.

As the president of a University, I feel compelled to educate our students, our faculty and our community to leave this history of hatred and intolerance behind. As a president of a Catholic University, I feel compelled to challenge each of us to see all of humanity as created in the image and likeness of a loving God.

So, to my middle-aged white neighbor who asked, “Don’t all lives matter?” the answer is this. Yes, all lives matter, but until we put behind us a violent, oppressive history which demeans black men and women in this country, we must pay special attention to the lives of our black brothers and sisters now and in the generations to come.

    J. Michael Pressimone is president of Fontbonne University. 6d

caliberlee Mr Motsepe said he was inspired by the spirit of “#ubuntu” – an African belief system which translates as “I am because you are”, meaning individuals need other people to be fulfilled. “South Africans are caring, compassionate and loving people. It has always been part of our culture and tradition to assist and care for less fortunate and marginalised members of our communities. This culture is also embodied in the spirit and tradition of ubuntu/botho,” he said.

South Africa’s richest black man, #PatriceMotsepe, has announced he is giving away half his wealth to improve the #lives of the #poor. The mining magnate said the money would be handled by the Motsepe Foundation to address #education and #healthissues.

He said he was inspired by the word’s two #wealthiest men, #BillGates and #WarrenBuffet, who are encouraging #billionaires to #donate to #charity. Mr Motsepe has a net worth of $2.65bn (£1.67bn), Forbes’ rich list estimates.

Born in the Soweto township, he is a lawyer by training and #SouthAfrica’s first and only #blackbillionaire. He founded the publicly traded mining conglomerate, African Rainbow Minerals #AfricanRainbowMinerals, which has interests in platinum, gold, coal and other minerals. He made most of his mining fortune through the government’s BLACK ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT POLICY, which mandates that mining companies be at least 26% #blackOwned, says the BBC’s Pumza Fihlani in Johannesburg. The businessman also owns Pretoria-based football club Mamelodi Sundowns.

Mr Motsepe made the announcement at an event in Johannesburg, where on a live video link Microsoft founder Mr Gates praised his decision. He said he was also going to join the The Giving Pledge, a campaign started by Mr Gates and investor Mr Buffet in 2010. So far more than 70 billionaires have signed up to it. “I decided quite some time ago to give at least half of the funds generated by our family assets to uplift poor and other disadvantaged and marginalised South Africans but was also duty-bound and committed to ensuring that it would be done in a way that protects the interests and retains the confidence of our shareholders and investors,” Mr Motsepe said in a statement.

caliberlee #WCW Phylicia Ayers Allen Rashad
In one particularly poignant moment, she recounted meeting former South Africa President Nelson Mandela, who spent 27 years as a prisoner of the state, and who was a fan of The Cosby Show. "He thanked me; he said, 'When I was on Robben Island, I watched that show with my guard and it softened him.' That is art," Rashad said. Speaking almost poetically, Rashad exalted the spiritual side of self-expression. "All forms of art began as worship. Art does connect us to the divinity within our own selves," she said. "Through art we connect, not only with the highest principle within ourselves, but with the hearts of others." - excerpts from sagaftra.org

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — More than 3500 people have signed an online petition to rename Jefferson Davis Highway.
The Change.org petition is calling on Governor McAuliffe to rename U.S. Route 1. Petition organizers say the former president of the Confederacy has no place in the Commonwealth.
The petition is the latest call to action in the controversy surrounding Confederate symbols amid a momentous nationwide movement following the shooting of nine churchgoers by an alleged white supremacist last month in Charleston, South Carolina.
Other online petitions (which can be found here and here) have since been posted countering the call to rename the road.
Meanwhile, the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) group has filed a response to the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles’ motion to vacate a 2001 decision to begin issuing the specialty license plates bearing the SCV’s Confederate Battle flag-themed logo. A hearing on that motion is currently scheduled for July 31, at 11 a.m. at the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia in Danville.
In a letter to Gov. Terry McAuliffe, petition organizers said the road named after the Mississippi-born former president of the Confederacy has no place in Virginia.

The highway, which was originally named in 1922, runs from northern Virginia right through Central Virginia and on to North Carolina and other states.

caliberlee “There is no acknowledgement that he gave the quaalude to someone underage, or to a woman who wasn’t consenting,” Brafman told TIME. “Quaalude was the love drug of choice in those years. Doctors were lawfully prescribing it in those years.” Quaaludes, the brand name for methaqualone, were a popular sleeping pill in the 1960s and were used in the 1970s and ’80s as a club drug, particularly to help people come off of a cocaine high. In 1973, they were classified as a Schedule 11 federal narcotic, which means doctors could still prescribe quaaludes but it was illegal to abuse them (Adderall is a Schedule 11 drug today). In 1984 President Ronald Reagan signed a law banning the production of the drug, making it illegal. Cosby’s admission concerns a period during the 1970s, when quaaludes would have been legal with a prescription. - time magazine #billCosby #timeMagazine #blackfigures 2w

I'm simply pointing out that it is in the white man's nature to covet what the next man have to the point where he will kill not just one person but entire people. Driving home tonight. I thought about the royal family and then I also thought about the people who we never get to know about, the Rothschilds and I kinda realize that while people black and white are here fighting each other, the people who have unnecessary wealth and power which took generations and hundred of years are the ones that are more than likely responsible for the current conditions or our world. Our racial problem. Starvation in certain areas because the robbed killed and extorted these areas. Implicate laws and use their wealth to stifle any effort of getting back up. 2w

caliberlee Julius Rosenwald a Jewish philanthropist who used his wealth and work with African Americans and built schools. He was also the co-founder of Sears. Businessman #JuliusRosenwald was deeply inspired by the works and racial-equality teachings of Booker T. Washington. #BookerTwashington Or, more specifically, Washington's emphasis on what a solid education could do for the racially disadvantaged in America. So much so that Rosenwald teamed up with Washington, and together they hatched a plan to build over 5,000 schools for black students in the Jim Crow South.

It was a pretty important endeavor, since segregation prohibited blacks from attending the all-white schools in many Southern states.

Civil rights and education-reform activist Julian Bonds is also a product of a Rosenwald school. He explained the significance of a Jewish man in the middle of the 20th century committing himself so vehemently to the idea that black American children must be educated.
"It's a wonderful story of cooperation between this philanthropist, who did not have to care about black people but who did, and who expended his considerable wealth in ensuring that they got their fair shake in America," Bonds said.
Other notable African Americans who are Rosenwald alum include Tony Award-winning playwright George Wolfe, attorney and academic Anita Hill, and Pulitzer Prize winner and Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson.
Look out for the Rosenwald documentary

  •   soulseedtees I like this brotha, you know why? Because some black people wear white people on their clothing all the time and it's deemed normal because that's just the society we live in, but to see white people acknowledge and respect our-story is not but it should be normal because parts of our story is what America is built upon. People forget too that white people were a part of the Underground Railroad...perhaps to attempt to right some of their peoples wrongs. Harriet Tubman made allies with some of them, that didn't make her a coon that made her a mutha freakin bawse because she knew how to use them for what she needed to free her people...thanks for sharing the video...I am working on some more badass designs that are going to be just as dope #staytuned @caliberlee 3w
