brittanylittleton Nearly all species of sea turtle are classified as Endangered. Slaughtered for their eggs, meat, skin and shells, sea turtles suffer from poaching and over-exploitation. They also face habitat destruction and accidental capture in fishing gear. Climate change has impacted turtle nesting sites, resulting in far fewer successful hatches. Baby turtles already face extremely difficult obstacles to survive, but human pollution and destruction have decreased the sea turtle population by 50% since 1970. If something doesn't change soon, we will lose them all. Turtles are not the only animals being affected. It is estimated that all coral reefs (and the countless sea creatures who rely on the reefs for food and shelter) will be gone by 2050. In just a little over 30 years, we will have irreparably destroyed the oceans and thus the entire planet. This should scare every single person. This should spark mass change. We have to stop supporting industries that are destroying the environment. The agriculture industry is one of the leading causes of climate change. The fishing industry is destroying habitats and killing thousands of endangered animals. Small changes can and DO make a difference. Give up sea food, switch cow's milk for almond milk, stop using plastic - it is up to us to reverse the damage. #saveouroceans #endangeredspecies #turtlerescue 5d
  •   fire_tigerr This is so true !! Well spoken! I second that. And I totally agree, people should be scared by this, but don't be overwhelmed, because if one person does their bit, then collectively, together, we can make a change all across the world! Make small changes to your life. I'm Greek and been brought up on so much meat, only to know educate my parents about what they are actually eating and in fact, like fish, which they fed me cod liver oil tablets with good intention, I was only to learn and tell them that actually omega comes from the plant source from algae for example, that the fish eat in the wild, and that spurilina is actually the source of omega 3 which will be far richer than the fish. Fish don't naturally produce omega three. This is one of the many things we have bought to believe. We are putting money in people's pocket who exploit our world and give us nothing of real substance in return. We think humans were designed to have to eat meat but an ordontologist from the natural history museum was asked this exact question and she said that humans have canines and molars, which means we can adapt to eat what we like! We don't have to eat meat to survive! I feel we need to reconnect with the real world and jump out of this false reality that human civilisation and industries have created. For me this is not real living. These poor animals are dying at the hands of humans. I know I will fight forever, and encouraging discussions about the real world!! 5d
  •   fire_tigerr I empathise so much with animals. Perhaps it's time we connected with ourselves again so that we can then connect with the world. 5d

  •   rea_sunshine I love your posts. I see a lot of people regarding topics like this saying this is just fear mongering. but I really do think humans can be very overindulgent. But it's only once things like clean water, clean air, tuna, rhinos, etc are gone that people suddenly care. It's good to know people out there are doing what they can to slow and possibly reverse the damage. 4d

brittanylittleton Hermes has this little pig toy and a lion toy that he has carried around with him since he learned how to walk. The lion one I gave to him at two weeks old when his sisters died and he was all alone fighting to survive. Most nights I slept on the floor next to his little box, but I wanted him to have something to cuddle with. He would crawl blindly around the box, searching for his sisters and it broke my heart. When he got stronger, he stole this toy from the dogs. Sometimes they still try to take it back and the result is always hilarious. He is the funniest and most loving kitty you could ever meet. I can't imagine life without this little rascal. #adoptdontshop #rescuecat 1w

brittanylittleton .
water is the source of life
but water also erodes
when it leaves
you will discover canyons
an aching emptiness
that cannot be restored .

It's 3 am and I should be sleeping but instead I'm adding yet another layer to this painting 🙃

brittanylittleton Inspecting the tiniest little baby love in Cambodia. When we go back, I would love to bring as much medication and supplies as possible to help the animals there. Most of the dogs are covered in ticks which easily spread disease to other animals and people. I treated as many as I could, but if we did a supply drive we could really prevent a lot of pain and suffering. I can't wait to be back there with @loveinfinitelyproject - we have a lot of exciting news and plans that we will be sharing soon! 1w

brittanylittleton Torero Álvaro Múnera's career ended when he was nearly fatally wounded by a bull attempting to defend himself. Múnera went on to become an avid opponent of bullfighting.
Múnera said, “And suddenly, I looked at the bull. He had this innocence that all animals have in their eyes, and he looked at me with this pleading. It was like a cry for justice, deep down inside of me. I describe it as being like a prayer - because if one confesses, it is hoped, that one is forgiven. I felt like the worst shit on earth.” If only all people could come to this realization. Every animals desires and deserves to live. Humans are the only creatures who use and abuse other beings for sport and entertainment. This story gives me hope for a more compassionate world. ️ (Note: After researching I found out that this photo is not of Múnera. I have chosen to leave it up because it is not the picture, but the point behind this post that is important. All animals should be treated with kindness and respect. Bullfighting - and exploitation of any means - is horrifically cruel and unnecessary. I hope this photo and it's caption impacts you to think about what we can do to create a kinder world for all beings.)

  •   4sublime20 So when the cat digs its claws in a bird or mouse and throws it the air and then waits for it to move so it can pounce on it and throw it again, that's not a conscious decision? So a cat can have fun killing and it's ok but not humans? So what about when grizzly bears or lions kill Cubs from other males, is that not a conscious decision to destroy and cause pain? I have a friend that is having a problem with one of his cats bullying the other because the other cat had some teeth removed due to infection. Isn't that a form of deliberate torture? Then if we move into the insect world look at how cruel parasites are! I'm not saying humans aren't doing horrible things, I'm just saying animals are equally as cruel. The main difference is humans "should" know better but then you're giving most people too much credit. The problem is that there is a lot of ignorance out there and not everyone is born with intelligence. I think it's better to educate about the pain being caused rather than trying to demonize mankind as some evil force not of this earth. We are all animals. 2w
  •   brittanylittleton @4sublime20 again, none of those examples are animals consciously causing suffering. I am not demonizing humans but I'm not going to ignore the harm we have done either. If you live in a first world country and have access to education and technology you have no excuse for ignorance. 2w
  •   tigarae @4sublime20 what's the point of your argument? She is trying to make a statement about human evolution and your de-evolving the conversation. 2w
  •   cowen1991 @4sublime20 your obviously too stupid to understand the point Brit is trying to make 2w
  •   4sublime20 Thanks for ad hominem attacks, that is a real mature argument. Look I understand that cruelty to animals is bad. The point I'm trying to make is that our lower consciousness, our animal tendencies are what lead to animal cruelty. It is through our intelligence, through our "humanness" that we rise above and become better stewards of earth. It is our primitive minds that resort to torture and what not for entertainment. It is the human quality to think about the consequences of our actions to determine better courses to take. It is the animal mind that doesn't consider what it is doing wrong, just like the cat and all of the other examples I've mentioned. I'm not trying to put down what you all are saying. I'm trying to elevate it by showing respect where it's due. Is that so bad that I have to be called stupid for it? 1w
  •   brittanylittleton @4sublime20 I think you forgot to tag the people you are talking to. Regardless, humans KNOW it is cruel. It is not animal nature to be cruel - the examples you gave were flawed and nowhere near as common as human cruelty. I'm don't wasting time on this argument. You are choosing to defend something that does not need defending. 1w

  •   fotologylab @brittanylittleton how does thus rescue work? 6d
  •   brittanylittleton @fotologylab it's a family owned ranch and they've taken in a bunch of farm and exotic animals who were abandoned by people who could no longer afford them (or lost their farms etc) and animals like Stanley here who were used in the film industry. 6d
  •   fotologylab @brittanylittleton sorry I keep writing here but for some reason there is no option to DM u, so do u know them? How can one be involved in supporting what they do? 6d
  •   brittanylittleton @fotologylab they are privately funded but there are a ton of great orgs you can support. I really love @farmsanctuary and @thegentlebarn. 6d
  •   fotologylab @brittanylittleton thank you. I will look into those.. We already work with rescues that take animals out of kill shelters but a lot of times u get to work with organizations where their overhead is 90%, bunch of crooks employing friends and families in the name of helping animals, and it gets frustrating to know that. What u are doing is an amazing thing! Kudos for that big heart of urs and hope u have a marvelous day 6d

brittanylittleton There's no pretty way to say the thing I want to say. I'm not even entirely sure what it is but I'm pretty sure it needs to be said because I've been thinking about it for three days straight. Really I've been thinking about it every day since that day. It's such a strange thing to be fine and not at the same time. Like all my happiest moments become the saddest ones because of what's missing. Like how some days I wake up and my first image is your last one. Or how the other day someone I really liked kissed me and for no reason all I could think about was us playing in the park. Remember, we thought we were too old to play in the park? We were still kids; we weren't old at all. You weren't old at all. You weren't old at all. It was a memory I didn't know I had. I kept thinking, "Why now?" But there's no way to hold back a ghost and there's no way to explain to someone why you are crying when they kiss you. There's no glue to fix that kind of broken. And I know, I know, you're okay, but I don't know that I will be. I keep thinking about the time I screamed at you. Is it funny or awful that it's my biggest regret and all I want to do at the same time? I didn't know. I didn't know. Now I keep the words "Please don't" at the tip of my tongue in case this is a nightmare and I get the chance to say them. Sorry is so heavy and I'm so tired of walking with it. Most days I'm almost certain you forgive me but how do I forgive myself? 2w

brittanylittleton .
There are worse things than ghost stories;
memories are the most menacing haunts
Every noise in the night sounds like
words that have the aftertaste of iron
and the weight of lead
I wonder if you replay it
I wonder if you wish I'd stayed
I wonder if one day I won't wonder any longer

In the other room a clock is ticking but the hands never move
