briandanielbaker A repost from my @BrianDanielBaker_SAwH page, from one of my east-coast shoots earlier this week! @MariaaSwan was absolutely *amazing* to shoot with.

Tell us, what does this image speak to you?

By the way, I'm on the west coast now, so if you want to shoot, let me know!

briandanielbaker A little repost (Canon-shot) from my @briandanielbaker_SAwH page, to update you guys on my travel itinerary! I'm on the grandest roadtrip of my life right now, stretching between three of the four corners of the country. Hit me up if you want to shoot!

I'm halfway across the country now, after some wonderful shoots in Philly and Jersey, and headed to the west coast.

Aug 24 ️ Seattle
Aug 26 ️ Portland
Aug 28 ️ Berkeley—near San Francisco
1-2 weeks later ️ Los Angeles!

LA will be an adventure because I won't have a car and only have sleeping arrangements for a week, but I want to stay for as long as people want to hire me for shoots! I don't know how and when I'm going back home to Nashville after, or even if that's where I'll be headed afterward. So let's make some art!

I've got $150-$500 photo packages, and I'm also offering a special referral reward to anyone who recommends me to others: I'll pay you 20% of whichever package they purchase. Thanks for being awesome and helping me connect in a new area!

I've never been to the west coast before.

briandanielbaker I was really looking forward to coming up and shooting with @MariaaSwan—her first shoot ever—because her enthusiasm and positivity were just so inspiring. Quite an eventful day we had! Lots of exploring, and some new things for both of us. Somewhere, somehow, a Round Two is a must. #hipstanudes 2w

briandanielbaker Taking my photography on the road again!—this time for my biggest adventure yet. On Wednesday I fly to Philly for a shoot, and from there a friend and I are driving to Seattle and then down to California, stopping along the way to sell photo prints on street corners (as my friend plays her cello) and also to visit my grandmother and some other friends.

The last part of the adventure is that I don't know how and when I'm coming back to Nashville! I wanna stay in California for as long as I find work, so hit me up if you wanna shoot or know a friend who'd wanna shoot! Let's have some fun and make some meaningful art: whatever self-respect means to you, that's what I wanna shoot!

Nashville friends, don't be surprised if I decide to move permanently after this adventure, after I've experienced more of the States.

briandanielbaker "I think we delight to praise what we enjoy because the praise not merely expresses but completes the enjoyment; it is its appointed consummation. It is not out of compliment that lovers keep on telling one another how beautiful they are; the delight is incomplete till it is expressed. It is frustrating to have discovered a new author and not to be able to tell anyone how good he is; to come suddenly, at the turn of the road, upon some mountain valley of unexpected grandeur and then to have to keep silent because the people with you care for it no more than for a tin can in the ditch; to hear a good joke and find no one to share it with" (C.S. Lewis). 3w

briandanielbaker More from today's shoot with @ladabuuug. Music by Infected Mushroom.

We used the Cinamatic app to record the video, and then I imported it into the Splice app to add the music.

briandanielbaker Had such a great time meeting @ladabuuug and @jarenitsme today! Shot tonnns of photos at sunrise and then went to the lake.

It's always such a joy meeting friendly and positive-minded people. Lada has experience in art therapy, which really ties in well with the approach I take when collaborating with someone photographically. Wonderful people. #hipstanudes

briandanielbaker Hittin' the road, my friends! Flying up to Philly for a shoot in less than two weeks, then driving with a friend to Seattle and then down to Los Angeles. It's my first time going to the western half of the U.S., and I haven't actually yet figured out how and when I'm getting back to Nashville, so it'll be an adventure!

I'll also do my best to make myself available for shoots along the way!—gotta make gas money somehow —so if you wanna connect, message me. Just for this trip, I've come up with $150, $200, $250, $300 and $500 packages. Any style.

Also, I'm increasing my standard referral reward while on the road. If anyone books a shoot at your recommendation, I'll give you 20% of whatever their purchase is. Thanks for helping me network in a new area!

It's gonna be a great adventure

briandanielbaker Snapped this little behind-the-scenes shot during @TheEmmyElle's photoshoot with Earl Flippen Jr. in my backyard yesterday. Earl was changing his camera batteries, so I seized the opportunity!

We can't choose our genes. My friend Emmy happens to have been born with some exceptional physical traits (completely natural) and has gotten plenty of modeling work for as long as I've known her, and yet what I respect is that she has not lazily relied on that. She works hard to take care of her body, inside and out-, and has adopted a clean diet. This is something she has control over—something she has chosen—and when people notice that, it is therefore a far more meaningful compliment.

My friends, whatever strengths and weaknesses God has granted we be born with, we all have this same responsibility: to grow, to mature, to nurture our strengths and overcome our weaknesses. Physically, intellectually, emotionally and spiritually, we must all be honest with ourselves: about what we have, and about where we can be, comparing ourselves only to our own personal potential (not to other people) and then working hard to eradicate laziness and self-defeat.

As a Christian I believe this is only truly and completely possible when we submit to a strength not our own. Only with the Spirit of God inside us can we fully reach maturity, because God is our Source and our End. We are made by Him and for Him, and only when we are completely vulnerable before Him can we find total fulfillment in His power flowing through us and perfecting us. Look below the surface. See the heart.

briandanielbaker How does one escape from a bad situation? Sometimes we can save ourselves, but sometimes we must be rescued by someone who is willing to take the risks, willing to get their hands dirty, willing to suffer a loss of time and comfort and expense and reputation, even their very lives.

I love my friends at @ExileIntl who go into Africa and rescue the kids (child soldiers, sex slaves, etc.) from the effects of the wars over there—and not simply saving them from the violent surroundings, but also from the psychological effects and emotional turmoil that remains.

Part of the counseling that the women and children receive involves art therapy, which includes making these amazingly sturdy paper beads, and turning them into necklaces they can sell to help purchase food and clothing and education. Exile hired me to shoot photos of the new jewelry—trash turned into treasure, which can be purchased at exileinternational.org—and I decided to take a break to make this iPhone-only image for you all, with something to think about.

How often do we see the need, in everyday life all around us (wherever we live), to recognize the hurts and to be willing to take the risks to help? Recently I've been experiencing both extremes: people who hurt me out of their desires to stay comfortable themselves, and others who show the faithfulness and steadfastness of their friendship in all circumstances. The most rewarding things in life require a constant stretching of our comfort zones, to help ourselves and others find the deliverance needed.
