bretthoebel Yoga-Capoeira Chatarunga combo. This is a tough one bc you are only on one foot, but it's great for the lower abs & shoulders!

you can add this into your normal yoga sun salutation or vinyasa flow practice, or do it by itself to improve core strength
alternate legs each time you go through your sun salutation or vinyasa. If doing it by itself, try it several times on the same leg to get more strength gains or alternate legs for more cardio-metabolic burn
make sure your lower back is warmed up before you do the upward dog press up (you can do cobra or other variations to warm up)
whichever leg is kept on the floor, you must engage the entire leg from your toes, shine, quads, hamstring and glutes, to help keep your core stable
engage your core by “bracing” your abs (like what you would do if someone were going to strike your stomach) so your hips do not rotate. Imagine a glass of water on your lower back and you are going to prevent it from tipping by bracing your abs to help keep your hips stable
️ from down dog, inhale as you lower yourself into the low Chatarunga/push-up position with elbows close to your ribs. Then engage your stance leg and abs as you swing your leg out to the side and back while staying in this low position (if swinging your leg straight is too difficult, keep your knee bent or don’t swing the leg at all but stay on one foot)
️ exhale as you press up up into upward dog, but try to keep your one leg off the floor
️ inhale as you lift your hips into the top of a push-up position while drawing your same side knee into your chest
️ exhale as you press back into down dog while extending your same leg behind you into a reverse kick
️ lower the leg into down dog and start over either from the same side (for strength gains) or alternate sides (for metabolic burn)
