blueapocalypse First time was a bit of a miss. Second time around it's a bit of a hit. Tokotsu Ramen on the rooftop of Lucky Chan's. Pork flavour is rich and thick #lunch #ramen 7d
  •   tomfraiche Absolutely the tonkostu at first wasn't that good. But like all there broths, there only getting better with time. 7d
  •   blueapocalypse @tomfraiche or maybe they realised that Perth isn't lightweight, we want heavyweight ramen! Give me all those layers of rich porky fatty goodness. I want flavour that will punch my gut Respect for responding to feedback and lifting their game 7d
  •   bees1 Going again Tuesday then Ellingtons so looking forward 7d
  •   lisaschreursstone Is there anywhere you recommend that does yum cha for dinner? I can't think! 3d

blueapocalypse I voted for the tree guy…. @perthsoup is a monthly micro-granting dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Perth. $10 donation/entry gets you four presentations, a bowl of soup, bread and a token to vote for your fav project. The project with the most votes gets all the money taken at the door. Tonight about $730 was raised and won by David of AURIA Forestry Research Project (check it out on Facebook!). He has been researching unique forestry techniques for establishing trees on degraded land and in arid regions. The money will go towards buying more trees to plant and learning about how trees can survive without the use of any chemicals and little water. An inspiring story from a guy who has put everything into this passion project. When asked from the audience who this will benefit? David says everyone!

This pumpkin soup was made by the MC’s mum with bread donated by The Woodfired Baker. Event was held at @space3ed #perthsoup

blueapocalypse Takeaway Chinese Burger from Mr Bun, a snack en route to @space3ed for my first @perthsoup where creative projects people are cooking up get shared and we vote on the best one! The email to attendees told us 'Don't Come Starving'. Roger that! 1w
  •   maxveenhuyzen How's the burger/roujiamo? Haven't had Mr Bun's yet. And I need to get to the next @perthsoup event, sounds pretty ace! 1w
  •   eatmeetswest I'm also interested in hearing your thoughts, it's behind my office but I haven't been 1w
  •   blueapocalypse @maxveenhuyzen @eatmeetswest it was my first roujiamo and I found it pretty satisfying :) The meat was tasty, the bread was crisp and hot, great to be eating while walking the streets on a cold night. Does anywhere in Perth do roujiamo? PerthSoup is such a great idea, look forward to listening to the presenters tonight. 1w
  •   messyjae1979 @veg_guy and I were there for lunch yesterday! Spicy brisket and belt noodles are awesome. We've been craving good noodles since moving out to the sticks- do you know of anywhere out this way @blueapocalypse @maxveenhuyzen ?? 1w
  •   maxveenhuyzen @blueapocalypse a few places do, actually. Ding's Fresh Bun, An's Kitchen and Kung Fu Kitchen spring to mind! 1w
  •   maxveenhuyzen @Messyjae1979 it's not exactly your neck of the Hills but I've heard okay things about Golden Eagle in Kalamunda. Mostly canto however! 1w
  •   blueapocalypse @messyjae1979 I've had the spicy brisket and belt noodles too :) So good! I don't know of any places but Guy could learn the art of noodle making 1w

blueapocalypse Just going to snuggle up to this bowl of winter melon soup with pork and prawn balls. Prepared a chicken stock first and amped up the flavour with some dried squid, dried scallops and dried shrimp #umami #soup #homecooking #blueapocalypsecooking 2w

blueapocalypse Had the pork schnitzel, kimchi, fried egg and cream corn dish @marystreetbakery for brunch with a side of bacon. Pork and I are still good friends even if I may have said lamb was the new pork yesterday. Some things are irreplaceable..... #bacon #brunch 2w

blueapocalypse Was great to watch @restaurantamuse Chef Hadleigh Troy show us how he cooked his 'mushrooms, miso, chicken and rice' dish at #TasteofPerth Electrolux Taste Theatre. It was my favourite dish when I dined at Amuse last year. It reminds me of Japan. #EatingTheCookingDemoDish #restaurantamuse 2w

blueapocalypse The only dish that @lauramaymoseley and I ordered one each and didn't share because you can't share fried custard from @lallarookhbar! @chefvalvasori thumb photobomb. Guess who has been working hard and who has been eating hard? #tasteofperth #chefhands #cheflyfe 2w

blueapocalypse On trend at the moment is white guys cooking Asian food. Here is @marysonmary twist on tartare with spiced raw beef, smoked oyster sauce and 7 spice crisps. The crisps are just Thins popped potato crisps aka white version of prawn crackers. This dish was runner up in Perth's Best in Taste Awards. Visited the Mary's stall the most over the weekend, really dig their food #tasteofperth 2w
  •   jessshaver Call it what it is. White guys cooking Asian food! It's easy to make fun of but not when it's done well. Mary's is killing it. Totally my new #1 grab a bite to eat joint in the hood. Every bite is a winner. 2w
  •   blueapocalypse @jessshaver yeah it's white guys cooking Asian food and it's totally legit! Fun and full of flavour . 2w

blueapocalypse My chicken wing game is strong! Rain, hail or shine @lauramaymoseley and I hit up #TasteofPerth today all rugged up and kept warm by eating all the food - sharing 11 dishes together! Had to get moar chicken wings from @marysonmary. Chefs have spent a lot of time prepping heaps of food for @tastefestivalsaus #tasteofperth as well as running their restaurants so don't let the weather stop you from enjoying the fruits of their labour! There's a dinner session tonight till 9pm and lunch session tomorrow 12-5pm. Free ponchos are being given out. Get down and taste food from some of the best restaurants in Perth (Madz photoshop skills courtesy of @lauramaymoseley) 2w

blueapocalypse My tip for food festivals is stay for the food demonstrations. Always great to learn about how chefs cook. Also stay till the end and grab a spoon. We weren't supposed to eat the food being demo'd but rules are meant to be broken. Smoked garlic risotto in my belly by @chefvalvasori! #justright #tasteofperth 2w
  •   smokinsteves_ stop 2w
  •   ozbreaker Sometimes you also need to know if the proportion method and looks of the food stack up on the taste buds! Thanks for your research :) 2w

blueapocalypse 9 hours later (7 hours cooking time and 2 hours resting) I have banh tet! Sticky rice cakes with pork and mung beans. #VietnameseFood #blueapocalypsecooking #homecooking 3w

blueapocalypse I forgot how long these take to make and now I'm in the middle of it I can't stop...spent the past 1.5 hours tying up banh tet (rolls of glutinous rice, mung beans and pork). So tricky trying to get the banana leaf around everything and all tied up. Now they all go into a large pot of boiling water and will be cooked for 7 hours, rotating every now and then. Making these for my mum as a Mother's Day food gift because food gifts are the best gifts! #blueapocalypsecooking 3w

  •   monniemoo It was over 10 years ago now, but it is still one of my most treasured food memories...roast chicken at Zuni's in San Francisco. Who would think that roast chicken, bread and currants could taste this amazing...it was superb! Apparently it's still on the menu! 3w
  •   blueapocalypse @monniemoo woah food that creates a lasting impression! Sounds amazing :) 3w
  •   me_mabel When are you in New York, I'm there 18-21 August it would be so awesome to have an eating buddy! 3w
