bicyclelover New day, new word. Today I spent several hours shopping for ingredients, reading recipes and making a coconut chicken soup for a very dear man who has the flu. When I was done cooking, I texted him to let him know I would stop by for a short visit to drop off the soup. He texted back that it's ok, and that his girlfriend has been taking good care of him. When I read that, I burst out crying. It's the first time I heard him use that word to describe the woman who's with him. The man is my ex-husband. It's the first time I've used that word to describe him. I guess I am going to have to get used to saying it. 1w

bicyclelover I was invited to two T-Day dinners but for some reason I didn't want to go to either one. I exercised, worked and did email like it was a normal day. I contemplated going to a coffee shop rather than to any of the dinners, but nothing was open. I tried calling my parents but couldn't reach them. Finally, at 4, I mustered up the energy to go to one party--it was three blocks away so it required the least effort. I intended to stay for one hour. But as soon as I stepped into my friend's house, I started acting like a good party guest. I smiled, I talked, ate, and met new people. At some point the acting no longer felt like acting and I was having a genuinely good time. My friend, the hostess, was charming and funny. She made a boatload of good food, but she also burned the plastic handle of a pot and didn't realize it until people complained about the bad smells coming from the kitchen. At one point, another friend who was far away in Minnesota texted me to wish me a happy Thanksgiving. Then a man I've been dating who was at a party elsewhere texted me and told me I am beautiful. All the while the conversation at the dinner table continued to be interesting and funny. At some point in the evening I realized that while some things in my life will continue to make me feel sad and lonely, I am surrounded by people who care about me, and more importantly I care about them. And that made me happy and grateful. 2mon
