b_dickman Anytime I get to work in beautiful places like Utah and Montana I'm a happy dude. It's been an incredible week full of new places and experiences, but I'm excited to be back in Columbus with Kenna. 19h

  •   b_dickman @stevekirschners We were a little limited on time, so we just explored a handful of areas off the main road and hiked up the Canyon Overlook trail. 4d

b_dickman Yesterday we had a bit of fun with @OhioHD's Dragon on the end of a 50' Super Techno, while our friends from @lowinglight brought the sun with their 12k Arrimax. #kineticremotesystems @_hartinc 1mon

b_dickman Rigged an FS5 & Ice Light to a shopping cart today. Rock solid. Fun. @westcottlighting @convergentd 3mon
  •   b_dickman @jamesdrakefilms I've definitely noticed noise in weird ways. For example, when we first got it we played around with S-log and I noticed a bunch of noise, but when I white balanced by another method the noise just went away. Very odd. And I hate that S-log restricts you to preset color temps. Lately I've been using the cine color/cine gamut profile (PP6 I believe), mostly so I can have more control over white balance settings and I've been getting pretty clean images that way. 3mon
  •   jamesdrakefilms @b_dickman interesting. I just did a first shoot with one a week or so ago and slog was looking pretty noisy even at the base iso and correctly set WB, so i suggested to switch all the cameras to one of their cine settings (not sure which one they agreed on, matching to an fs7) and the noise was drastically less, though supposedly less dynamic range-- couldn't tell tho :) 3mon

b_dickman Locations.
A few years back I shot promo photos for @hitthelightsoh in this space. A short time later this site would become a parking lot. #35mm #kodak #film

b_dickman Just finished giving a bunch of stills lenses a 3D printed focus gear upgrade. A seamless gear, less expensive than the clamp-on gears. 4mon

  •   mikepdot Awesome stuff, @b_dickman! Also how is the 11-20 (compared to the 11-16)? Is it basically the same, just longer range? 4mon
  •   b_dickman @mikepdot Thanks, Mike! I haven't done any side-by-side tests, but it looks and feels a lot like the 11-16. Some will say the 11-20 is a bit sharper, but again, I haven't done any side-by-side tests to see for myself. 4mon
  •   mikepdot Cool! Yeah, I have the original 11-16 (not even v2) and was considering the 11-20 or the newly announced 14-20 f2.0 (though I worry about coverage). 4mon

  •   b_dickman @amweills Crazy! I was there for the same reason; filming for a client who was exhibiting. I'm assuming you work for an exhibitor? 4mon
  •   b_dickman @amweills BTW, enjoy Zion! I love that place! 4mon
  •   amweills No, I'm in charge of The Andersons General Store's Kitchen and Bathroom remodeling biz. Out to see vendors and new products. Who did you film for? I've never been to Zion, any thing I better not miss? 4mon

b_dickman It was early in the morning. Hardly anyone was out, and the sun was just coming up. I walked a few miles from my hotel, where I found a dark hallway under the railroad tracks. As I entered the passageway I had to duck my head around pipes and wires hanging from the low ceiling. The walls along the uneven path obstructed my view of what waited up ahead. As I began to question where it might lead, the hallway opened up and the soft light from the lanterns lit my path through Yakitori Alley.

b_dickman I love traveling, and am fortunate to have a job that allows me to see some pretty wonderful places, but every time I'm in that place I find myself wishing Kenna was there to share the experience. She loves to travel as much as I do, so it's especially hard to leave her at home while I'm in some new place. About seven or so years ago I shot a series of videos all over OH, MI, PA, NY and KY. I think I shot about 115 interviews plus location b-roll over 5 weeks. It was a whirlwind. I logged a ton of miles, and met some really awesome people. After a few days of shooting in Upstate NY, I was driving to the next stop on the tour (Dayton, OH) when I made a stop in Erie, PA. I had never been to Erie, but I had been wanting to visit a park there. So I took the opportunity to cruise through Presque Isle State Park, a peninsula that juts out into Lake Erie. There's a tree covered road that loops around the park, passing by 11 miles of beaches and wetlands accompanied by the sound of water splashing the shore. It was one of those moments when I thought "I wish Kenna could be here" followed by "I'll have to bring her out this way someday."
Yesterday morning, as we were planning our drive back to Dayton from New York I saw the opportunity to make that "someday" be "today". So we took a little detour to spend a couple hours cruising around the park, sitting on the beach soaking our feet and listening to the water. I can't think of a better way to break up the drive, and I'm glad I finally got to share one of those many places with her. I have a long list that we need to work on. :-)
