ariny4 And here is a little treat from the archives: model of Moffett's first proposed scheme. Rejected by GLC on the grounds that the future occupants might find the design too radical (and that the plumbing problems might be difficult and expensive). 5d

ariny4 Part of the brief for the architect was 'no 'matchbox' architecture'. Each of the flats in the block is designed on a different plan. 5d

ariny4 Ashington House. Designed by Noel Moffett and completed in 1971. Moffett is from Ireland and, in his words, the design of Ashington House (and of some other of his buildings) was inspired by the Giant's Causeway. However the the initial design was rejected by GLC. Moffett suggested more conventional rectangular blocks in the second scheme and it was accepted. A beautiful example of imaginative architecture, which is sadly overlooked and neglected these days. 5d

ariny4 The iconic Isocon building by Wells Coates, 1934. O highly recommend the Isokon Gallery based in the former garages of the building, anyone interested in modernism and architecture should go :) the gallery features full size kitchen and dressing room installations recreated using original fittings salvaged during the restoration. 2mon
