anniebjones05 I plan all my outfits around the books I read. (False, but a fun coincidence nonetheless.) 1d

anniebjones05 Busy planning fall events for @bookshelftville, including (are you ready for this?) BOB GOFF and GRETCHEN RUBIN. What is my life? 3d
  •   jdubcrowe That is so cool! 3d
  •   sherripuzey Love Gretchen Rubin! That's awesome! 3d
  •   emily_0126 Oh my gosh! They're both so great, but Bob Goff, oh man. What a treat. 3d
  •   chettarcheese I hope Goff is on a weekend! 3d

anniebjones05 Just finished reading my first-ever graphic memoir/novel, and I'm betting it won't be my last. (Side effects of this particular work include a deep need to go to Paris and phantom stomach growls.) 2w
  •   huntermcl1993 Omg! I'm going to have to get you some recommendations for Graphic Novels. There are so many amazing ones, that are so different than what people associate the term with 2w
  •   k.shire You really must read Fun Home! 2w
  •   _leslielee Ooooh! I just read El Deafo, and it was my first graphic novel/memoir. 1w
  •   rustyswife Stupid question but what is different about graphic novel than other memoirs? 1w
  •   anniebjones05 @rustyswife graphic memoirs/novels are written more in comic book-style -- drawings, handwritten prose/dialog. Not a dumb question at all! Very different for me, but I enjoyed it. 7d

  •   keatonryan It's like the Southern reach trilogy IRL. 3w

anniebjones05 We're expanding our classics at The Bookshelf! Exciting (and exhausting) days over here. 3w
  •   elizabethpfink So beautiful! 3w
  •   karibaumann Not gonna lie, about 50% of the time I want to quit my job and come work for you. 3w
  •   sjshepperd Who publishes these??? 3w
  •   anniebjones05 @sjshepperd they're Penguin Drop Cap classics, and they're fantastic! 3w
  •   anniebjones05 @karibaumann come on down! 3w
  •   chettarcheese Heard the English teacher making Joyce-jokes today and I thought, "Man, I wish I got that." Then we talked about David Allen Coe. Go figure. #Tennessee. I need to read Joyce. 3w
  •   huntermcl1993 I love that The Secret Life of Bees is part of all of these classic book collections, because it's so new and I always am taken aback. Lol it's just unexpected. 3w
  •   anniebjones05 @huntermcl1993 agreed! I mean, I like that book, but... One of these things is not like the other... 3w

anniebjones05 When it's 100 degrees outside: Treat yo' self. 1mon
  •   michaelaraej Yum, I love Italian sodas. 1mon
  •   anniebjones05 @emily_0126 YES! When your jeans stick to your legs and you want to hide until October: Treat yo' self. 🏼🏼 1mon
  •   emily_0126 When one afternoon outside makes a total joke of your "natural, healthy" homemade deodorant: treat yo'self. (And buy real deodorant.) 1mon
  •   abbiebabble And to think I'm complaining about 85... 1mon
  •   anniebjones05 @emily_0126 @abbiebabble it was 94 degrees at 8:00 last night... Help! 1mon
  •   jessicazigenis It's 105 here. This little old Oregonian is not mentally equipped for this crap. 1mon
  •   anniebjones05 @jessicazigenis you definitely win! At least southerners are born and bred for this. 1mon

anniebjones05 Okay, I'm 3/4 through this, the supposed "it" book of the summer, and what I want to know is WHY. Are we reading this because Reese told us to? Because of GONE GIRL? Because, you guys: This is no GONE GIRL. Someone help me understand. And make no mistake: I'm going to finish. I've got book club commitments, and I will get this done. But in the meantime, I want to know: Did you like this book? Really like it? Explain. I must know why. Help, or share in my angst. Misery loves company. 1mon
  •   bcmountford Not yet. I'm not opposed to another Strayed book. I didn't love Eat, Pray, Love either, but Gilbert's book The Last American Man was excellent. 1mon
  •   rlhuf11 @bcmountford I have Dear Sugar (a gift from @anniebjones05, I believe) if you want to borrow it 1mon
  •   frlilly20 Haha!🏽 1mon
  •   tristarenea I just started reading this and I had the exact same thoughts you do! I'm so glad I'm not alone!! I don't get the hype...yet. I'll read a page and then go, "wait, what?!" I hope it gets better soon! PS! I keep meaning to finish Dietland but I keep "borrowing" books on my Kindle from my library (like the above book!)...but when I do I'll be sure to let ya know!! 😀 1mon
  •   bcmountford @rlhuf11 done. Also, the nerd in me is so happy that books are being discussed on Instagram. 1mon
  •   anniebjones05 @bcmountford @rlhuf11 isn't it the best?!? 1mon
  •   freemanmandy @anniebjones05 Oh dear, just started this one for a book club I joined... it's traumatizing. Did you get through it?! 4w
  •   anniebjones05 @freemanmandy made it through, but... Oof. It was rough, for a lot of reasons. Thought the writing was poor, and the "twists" were way different/darker than I was expecting... Let me know how you like it! 4w

anniebjones05 Everyone should have at least one friend from their high school years, if for nothing else than humility's sake. I'm pretty lucky to still be friends with a girl I met in second grade. Morgan, happy 29th birthday! Neither of us is stellar at social media, but you helped make my high school and growing up years full of happy memories, and I think that deserves a post of its own. I'm so grateful for a lifelong friend like you. 1mon

anniebjones05 Sat in my grandpa's blue chair for three hours tonight and read this entire thing. I'll try to compose my thoughts into a blog post this weekend, but for now, know this: All controversy aside, this book deserves to be read. It is so, so important. And heartbreaking. And funny. And good. It is rich and nuanced and realistic, and Southerners? It might be the wake up call we need. 1mon
