amy_donovan One of my favorite uses of leftovers: Take leftover pot roast + simmer in marinara (store-bought or homemade) for 30 minutes or so, until it's nicely shredded + heated through. Toss with pasta, top with cheese, + you have a fab, simple braised beef pasta. SO good + totally different than the pot roast/potatoes/veggies the first time around. 4h
  •   jimreams Crock pot! 4h
  •   amy_donovan @jimreams obviously! BigRed, we call her. 4h
  •   apayne_17 I've even benefitted from the likes of Big Red, so many thanks to you, @jimreams, and you, @amy_donovan! 4h
  •   kyddsr Did you make the noodles, too? @amy_donovan 3h
  •   amy_donovan @kyddsr I did! Good eye. Made it with wide fettuccine last night, skinnier capellini today (because it's easier for the baby to eat). I loooove homemade pasta! 3h
  •   amy_donovan @apayne_17 Big Red has actually gotten around a lot amongst neighborhood parties, family dinners, etc., hasn't she?!? 3h
  •   kyddsr @amy_donovan confession: I have the KA pasta attachment. Have never opened the box. 3h
  •   amy_donovan @kyddsr That's what I use! And used for these exact noodles. You've gotta bust it out + give it a try, sista! 3h

amy_donovan See those pinched fingers? Fearless Toddler "seasons" everything I feed her. This isn't something I've taught her - she's learned from watching me in the kitchen every day. Pretty amazing, right? Kiddos are always watching + learning! 4d

amy_donovan Here's real life, folks. Fearless Toddler LOVES helping me cook. Today, we chose a recipe together (Coconut Curry Chickpeas!), went grocery shopping together, and loaded up the CrockPot together.

After 6 hours of cooking, I gave the curry a taste. OMG TOO SPICY TO EAT. I re-read the recipe + realized that we used raw jalapenos instead of pickled jalapeno. WHOOPS.

I turned to Twitter and per friends' suggestions, added cream, yogurt, + crushed pineapple to help lessen the spice. The final result is super tasty, and SO unlike the original recipe. It's a creamy, tangy, sweet-and-sour chickpea curry. An unexpectedly awesome meal.

It takes a village to raise a child, they say. Well, it also takes a village to cook with a child. =)

amy_donovan Simple toddler activity: Cut a felt shape, punch holes in it, then give kiddo yarn + a blunt plastic needle to "sew." Took 1 minute to make with supplies already in my craft box. Entertainment AND works on those fine motor skills! 1w

amy_donovan If I make foods miniature, + let Fearless Baby help with preparation, she is much more likely to eat it. Here, I took one jumbo meatball (pictured for scale) + rolled it into blueberry-sized teeny meatballs. Sauteed them, then let Baby help with "seasoning" them. Served with mini pasta shells (+ not pictured: cheese + peas). HUGE hit! 3w
  •   amy_donovan *And just a friendly reminder to be mindful of foods that can be choking hazards for little ones, depending on their age + eating skill. Pieces should be 1/2" or less, and round foods are made safer when cut in half.* 3w
  •   kyddsr She's the best! 3w
  •   amy_donovan *Additional reminder: don't let little kiddos use a toothpick to eat. I just did for this quick picture, I swear, because she saw me do it + wanted to try. We then switched to fork/fingers. * 3w
  •   apayne_17 ALWAYS CHEESE. Don't ever stop loving cheese, Baby FH! 3w
