amandabouzakine 1. Messy hair, don't care. 2. We brought out the his and her cable-knit sweaters for today's very fall-like weather. I love me a baby in a sweater 3. Caleb's all like: enough photos already, mom. 4. Dinner out tonight went like this: happy little lamb baby right up until we ordered. Then came a tiny bit of fussing followed by a scream fest. This was new territory for us - he's usually so calm when we're out and about! So we took the food with us and finished eating in our driveway after mister Caleb finally passed out on the drive home. Oh, the new adventures that are in store! 2d

amandabouzakine Vermont, the beautiful, from the car window.

Yesterday we took Caleb on his first road trip, to Albany to get his lip and tongue ties fixed by THE specialist for that sort of thing. It was fun to introduce him to the road (and to three new states!) but that drive home with an uncomfortable baby boy was the hardest. No amount of rolling green fields or beautiful mountain ranges could have made him feel better.
He's doing better today - a few extra tears and some extra cuddles. But we're happy to finally have the correct diagnosis and that he's now fixed. Nursing is already going much better and we're ahead of any future speech problems that could have been caused by the ties - hooray!

  •   carley623 That's awesome! So glad yall got it corrected. Wishing yall fast healing and lots of love and cuddles! 4d
  •   amandabouzakine @carley623 thank you! We're so relieved. It was such a process since we had another specialist mis-diagnose us. We're just happy to finally have it all figured out! 4d

amandabouzakine Went on my first post-baby run tonight. I made it about 1.2 miles in the amount of time that I probably could have fast-walked it. But it feels good to start again. The air has that distinct pre-fall crisp to it and one neighbor already has pumpkins out on their front porch. I'll be the last to say I'm ready to see summer end, but I'll admit there's something lovely about the fall and new beginnings. 1w

amandabouzakine A little pre-date family photo. Little man is home with the grandparents and I'm in search of oysters and a nice glass of rosè! 2w

amandabouzakine It was time for a cut (the bang is back) and some eyebrow grooming! Since I have yet to give an update on the blog, here's a little bit on how I'm doing at six weeks postpartum... First, motherhood is rad and I count my blessings everyday that Caleb is ours. He brings more joy, purpose, and love to our lives than I could've ever imagined. Also, more poop. I'm finally starting to feel 100%, physically and emotionally. I'm thankful that my final postpartum appointment showed I'm fully healed after a 4th degree tear during labor. Honestly, it's been a long road of healing and I'm happy to be out on the other side of it. I'm excited to start working off some of this postpartum weight, no matter how slowly I have to approach it. I was seriously underprepared for what postpartum would look like on me, and I'm not a fan. :) I'm still working hard to overcome my hardest obstacle of motherhood: nursing. Little guy had a late start at nursing because of the fluid in his lungs at birth, and we're still working hard to make it right. His tongue might also be giving him some trouble, but we're getting varied answers as to whether that's the case. It looks like another round of lactation consultants and ear, nose, throat specialists are in my future. I've never been so determined to make something work. And while motherhood is worthy of all the smiley face emoticons, this particular part has been difficult and has tested and stretched me in so many ways. I remain hopeful that we'll successfully come out on the other side of this! 2w
  •   allisonkjlaplante Hang in there... #motherhood is a process... All of this will pay off! #sleeplessnightsequalswonderfulchildren 2w
  •   _sarahtucker You are an amazing mama!!! 2w
  •   mrsrachelbranch Thinking of you and hope it gets better for you. Nursing is so hard. It surprised me how hard it would be. So proud of you for not giving up. I am struggling with the postpartum body I now have but trying not to stress about it! 2w
  •   iveyloves Take a deep breath as often as possible! Try to connect with other local, BF moms... I hate to sound too "granola" but La Leche League can be a good resource for first time moms to get BF support and meet other moms with babies his age... New baby friends! Finally, give yourself a huge break and realize that the medical community recognizes the "fourth trimester," AKA you healing for three months following birth, and that the vast majority of moms return to their normal size and feeling like themselves at their baby's first bday. I'm right there with you! Your little man is the cutest. xo 2w

amandabouzakine Stole this one from the husband's Facebook page. I get all the morning snuggles - lucky me! Also, in the game of "what did my baby get from me?" I obviously passed down the skill of sleeping with an open mouth. 😴 2w

amandabouzakine Evening beach walking. The chilly air and calm waves were much needed tonight. The end of pregnancy is no joke, y'all. I thought I'd escape the mental and physical frustration that's so common at the end of pregnancy, since I've been feeling so well until now. But during the last two nights I've experienced the uncomfortable sleeping that many women deal with way earlier in pregnancy (I'm counting my blessings that it took until week 39 to catch up with me). And that lack of sleep mixed with pregnancy hormones all crashed down on me today. Here's to a better tomorrow! 2mon

amandabouzakine An afternoon of BBQ eating, country music listening, and back road driving. It would be a bonus if exposing baby b to his southern roots encourages him to come out! 2mon
