alexhonnold Sunset as @colinhaley1 and I close in on the summit of Fitz Roy. This was the only photo I took all day while we repeated the Wave Effect - 17 hours to climb Desmochada, de la Silla, and Fitz Roy. That's the problem with simul climbing: no time for tourism. 3d

alexhonnold @colinhaley1 coiling ropes on the summit of Torre Egger during our traverse of the Torres. After an ascent of a lifetime like that I'm sort of inclined to sit in town and rest a while but the weather is already good again so we're headed back in for more. Colin has unwavering motivation for the mountains, which is probably what makes him one of the best alpinists in the world. I feel more of a tourist's level of motivation in the mountains: inspiring to see them and have adventures but no need for TOO much. We'll see how this weather window goes! 1w

alexhonnold Sunrise on the South East Ridge of Cerro Torre as @colinhaley1 leads our rappels down after a long day of traversing the range. 32 hours camp to camp to climb all 4 Torres. Thanks for an amazing day out, Colin! 1w

alexhonnold That awkward moment at the end of a pitch when your partner has to climb over and under your limbs to actually get on the belay ledge. Always fun doing this dance with @daveallfrey!! We had a delightful day of climbing until it started to snow on top... Always good training for alpinism. 3w

alexhonnold There aren't that many photos out there that capture what simul climbing big walls really feels like. Here @tommycaldwell and I are simuling towards the top of Mt Watkins in Yosemite. Miles of granite, endless cracks. Good times. We managed to both free the route in 2:50, which is pretty quick for a 2000ft wall. It was a good start to the Triple. Thanks @benjaminbditto for being able to stay ahead of us and take good photos. #tbt 4w

alexhonnold Team green on a rare ascent of Whipcord, an amazing 13c sport pitch on the top of the Rostrum in Yosemite. Thanks @katiebirdlambert for the attentive belay and @benjaminbditto for the pic. #tbt 1mon

alexhonnold @benjaminbditto recently sent me a ton of old photos from big routes in Yosemite - including this shot of @tommycaldwell and me hiking off the top of Mt Watkins after the first leg of the free Triple. Pretty cool seeing Half Dome behind us and knowing that we freed it about 20 hours later to finish the day out... 1mon

alexhonnold It's been fun to be in sport climbing project mode again. Posted up at the VRG trying as hard as I can.
Thanks @james_lucas for capturing the crux moves of my project. And being a constant source of motivation and belays.

alexhonnold Super sad to hear about the unfortunate death of Doug Tompkins. Such an inspiring conservationist and climber, such a terrible loss.
I took this photo two months ago as he gave me a tour of some of his parks in southern Chile. We spiraled around the summit of Corcovado (pretty sure, I confuse the volcanoes) while he tried to snap pics of a route he'd climbed years before. The flight made me very motion sick. But it was super inspirational to meet a 70 year old man who hadn't lost any of his fire for climbing or protecting wild places. Such energy!
Rest in peace, Doug. Thanks for guiding the way.

  •   armando_montero_y Yes, this is the south face of volcan Corcovado. The germans Alfredo Gasch y Gerhard Kress made the first ascent of the mountain in 1945, Doug Tompkins climbed solo in 1993 (second ascent). In 2013 with other two chileans we made the 3rd ascent, all by the west face. Thanks to Doug Tompkins this is a national park now. RIP 2w

alexhonnold Last year @dickeyphoto captured one of my best climbing efforts ever. This photo is from the top of the PreMuir (35 pitch 13c) right before I took a monster fall. Thankfully I managed to send the pitch next try right after the sun set.
He's selling prints of any of his great photos on his website:

alexhonnold At last night's book signing in Berkeley I received this painting from a young fan - @kaj303 - who included a nice note about wanting to lead a life of adventure. Watch out @renan_ozturk, the next generation of climbing artists in on the way!! It's been surprisingly satisfying for me to do so many book signings the last few weeks. Great to see so many psyched climbers out there! And thanks to everyone who's come out or checked out the book. 3mon

alexhonnold I had a great time launching my new book Alone on the Wall at the #BanffMountainFilmFestival the last few days. Highlights include being interviewed (and then arm wrestled!!) by legendary climber Greg Child. Always fun and inspiring to be surrounded by so many great filmmakers and adventurers. But that stoke for the mountains will have to wait a few weeks while I tour with the book... 3mon

alexhonnold Been rereading my book Alone on the Wall in preparation for my upcoming book tour. It's made me reminisce about old climbs. Like soloing the Rostrum for the first time in 2007. This was the first big route I soloed - if I hadn't climbed over the roped party below me there would be no photos at all. Fun to remember some older climbs... #tbt 3mon

alexhonnold I had a nice time playing with a new BMW X1 yesterday. For someone who's lived in a car for the last 8 years it was a delightful touch of class. Thanks @jimmy_chin for the photo - could be my Christmas card this year. #X1WHATSNEXT #ad 4mon

alexhonnold The folks following @bmwusa on periscope sent @jimmy_chin and me on a mountain biking adventure today. Fun times riding in the Sierra. #X1WHATSNEXT #ad
And let me just add that everyone has to work sometimes; I can't imagine a more fun day of work than cruising in the mountains with friends.

alexhonnold @jimmy_chin and I are going adventuring in a new BMW X1 tomorrow. You can follow along and help choose the adventure at @BMWUSA on Periscope. Today we scouted potential locations. It felt suspiciously like a normal day of climbing... #X1WHATSNEXT #ad 4mon
