alexandern TROUBLES BUILDING YOUR CALVES? READ THIS
The "calf" is called triceps surae also known as the "three-headed muscle of the calf". The two-headed "Gastrocnemius" & the "Soleus"
Soleus is a postural muscle. This means it contains mostly slow-twitch muscle fibres and has a greater capacity for sustained work (walking etc..🏽)
Gastrocnemus is NOT a postural muscle. Which means it HAS to be trained as any other musclegroup (hard & heavy). The reason that the calf has a more severe muscle development for some is to the calf we have less receptors in the calf that contribute to hormonal development (muscle building)
We have almost as much lean muscle tissue, which means that it is almost entirely genetically. But that does not mean it's an excuse, you can still build musclemass and strength. Just that it does not appear as clear as in the example biceps.

On the left picture we see a person who has a longer lever arm (more excitement).
This means that the person has problems with building big calves for there is almost as much tissue as the muscle bundle.
The right calf on the other hand have very short lever, and much more mass (less tension) which makes it probably easier to build rough & great calf but may not be able to jump as high as the one on the left image.
As a conclusion, it is almost entirely genetically. But that's no excuse not to work out calves for I have rejected genetics, you can still get good looking calves, just not as easily & visable. But you can NOT get larger solar (ankles).
The key to develop your calves is to hit both Soleus & Gastrocnemus.

Seated calf-raises targets your soleus, (keep it within 8-12reps)
Standing calf-raises targets your Gastrocnemius (keep it within 8-12reps
