tom_furse Wow GQ. It's almost as if giving Tony Blair philanthropist of the year wasn't a big enough piss take. 2w
  •   optigram_citinite I understand why this got so much flak at the time and again now... the contrast is striking. But I think people should remember/realise that she would have been fully complicit in the ideas behind the shoot. In another pic her breast is groped by a guy (GQ's creative director I think). To cast as her as some kind of exploited victim is probably a bit patronising. She needed a career boost and I'm sure that cover was the most sought after, so at the end I think her pics were successful both for the mag and for her. Singers using their sexuality to lure fans is the oldest trick in the book. 2w
  •   tom_furse @joshuacrichmond within the context of a series of photographs I think you have a point. I would say that the context and subtext are massively different when they presented on a series of magazine covers though. 2w
  •   joshuacrichmond In short, nudes are powerful and in milliseconds help us escape context of everyday life. In the afterthought, you can ask are we being taken and is she being exploited. That the series lands on her makes the men recede even further. It's our (our meaning men's) own excitement, love, desperation that creates fear of the woman's body. 2w
  •   biancapencz I hate the idea that there's all these men arguing whether or not the covers are sexist--women are the voices that matter here--but thank you @tom_furse for getting it. The cover choice was definitely misogynist, in context or not. 2w
  •   carolinehailey So glad you're against this too, Tom. Xx 2w
  •   kendralsaunders Thanks for using your voice to point stuff like this out and help people think more constructively about media @tom_furse New or old, this is still going on and the more aware people are, the less they'll accept it as "normal" 2w
  •   marinalazzarotto Whether it's old news or not sexism and objetification of the woman body is still happening to this day so this topic is fucking relevant. I'm glad that men are noticing these problems! 2w
  •   originalfuzzle This is beyond wrong. This should be illegal. I hate this. It sickens me. 2w

You guys have it so easy with festivals...always packed with great bands. Festivals in Australia get a couple of decent headliners and that's it. 3w
