I’m now reviewing all my photos from recent Borneo shooting, and sometimes you find these surprises in there. On a more serious note, a big thanks to the orangutans and the great GP field team for a terrific summer of shooting in Gunung Palung National Park, West Kalimantan. #saveGPorangutans, #Borneo, #Indonesia, @thephotosociety, @TBFrost, @RRSuro, @RussLaman, @TimLaman 2d

timlaman @RussLaman tries to get a break from the sweat bees during a trek searching for orangutans in the Ulu Ai rain forest of Sarawak in Borneo. These harmless but annoying little bees swarmed us and our sweaty backpacks, and made a tough hike even tougher. But that’s life in the jungle – you have to just deal with it. timlaman Photo by @TimLaman on assignment for @NatGeo in Borneo. A big kiss from one of the dominant male orangutans at Gunung Palung for all you orangutan fans out there! This is a parting shot of an orangutan from Gunung Palung as my team and family have now moved on to other locations. This male orangutan is actually making what we call a kiss-squeak call – a loud smack made with lips in kissing position - which is what orangutans do when they are a little upset because another orangutan, or a person is getting a little too close to them. I got the message and backed up for sure. Check out savegporangutans.org to learn more about helping to conserve orangutans in Gunung Palung National Park. timlaman Photo by @TimLaman on assignment for @NatGeo in Gunung Palung National Park, Borneo. The best light for photographing rain forest scenes is when a little afternoon sun comes out after a rain shower. Beautiful light filters through the forest, and the wet leaves make everything look lush. Gunung Palung has some of the most spectacular and intact remaining lowland rainforest in all of Borneo. #savegporangutans, #Borneo, #Indonesia, @TimLaman, @thephotosociety 3w

timlaman Photo by @TimLaman on assignment for @NatGeo in Gunung Palung National Park, Borneo. Bushy-crested hornbills at their nest cavity, where they have come to bring food to the female and chicks inside. Female hornbills stay inside their nest in a hollow tree like this for the entire time they incubate their eggs and raise the chicks, which can be three months. They are dependent on the male and older offspring from previous years to deliver food regularly. We found this nest while out searching for orangutans in Gunung Palung National Park. #savegporangutans, #Borneo, #Indonesia, #orangutans, @TimLaman, @thephotosociety 3w

timlaman Photo by @TimLaman on assignment for @NatGeo in Gunung Palung National Park, Borneo. Often, the spider webs are just an annoyance hitting me in the face as I hike along the trail in the early morning, heading out to photograph orangutans. But sometimes when we are having no luck with orangutans, I have time to appreciate the other creatures of the forest including the incredible intricacy of an orb-weaving spider’s web. This is one of the Gasteracantha, or spiny-stomached spiders, working on her web. #savegporangutans, #Borneo, #Indonesia, #orangutans, @TimLaman, @thephotosociety 3w
