facehunter The designer @sophogongliashvili comes from #Georgia, a Christian country in the Caucasus region. So, when I discovered her ring collection showing women in burqa, I got very curious. I was wondering what could be the story behind those beautifully mysterious rings. Sopho told me this tale. The character that appears on most of her rings is Gürcü Hatun (born Tamar Bagrationi) , a Georgian princess from the 13th Century who was the favorite wife of Sultan Kaykhusraw II in the Ottoman Empire. After his death in 1246 she married the Anatolian strongman Pervane. Her title Gürcü Hatun means "Georgian Lady". Like most Georgians, Tamar initially remained an Eastern Orthodox Christian but is known to have converted to Islam at a later point. She is known to have patronized science and art, and to have been on friendly terms with the famous Sufi poet Rumi in particular.
