kgschnell From the notebooks of Kimberly Schnell, a deep and depressing poem written in approximately 5 minutes used as a caption for a photo that seems (on the surface) completely and utterly irrelevant:

We’re not well-oiled machines, but human beings.
Created to emote, but forced to shell away
And together we complete the Earth
Under the impression that no man is an island
But a piece of a continent.

When that storm hits
And the lightning strikes
The trees start to fall
And the rain floods the innards of your soul.
Suddenly reaching your hand to the surface seems impossible
And the vulnerability forces you back under.

You slowly drown and everybody seems to gloss over you.

Everybody has their storms, and you think to yourself, 'I’m no different.
Everyone else survives.' The energy seems to escape your body
And the weight of your struggles overtakes you.
But finally the pain shoots down your spine
And your bones start to crack under your own pressure.
You start to believe that you’re too far gone.
Your strength is lost.

Your neighbor sees you crumbling under the surface
And instead of watching and judging in silence
And channeling that small town mentality
Of golden talk that spreads like fire
He offers you the support of a hand
And lets your soul breathe again.
Because he himself has had the same struggles.
Because he is for you.
