O...M...Ang...ku...kueh...!!
Where am I now? For sure I am still in Sydney lol...The boss in #albees keep promotes her best homemade 'ang ku kueh' to my aunt. Sure??Ok, trust you ba..WOW...definately #一级棒 { Ang Ku Kueh : 红龟粿 } translates directly from Hokkien into "red tortoise cake". They are small oval shaped Chinese pastry with oily sticky glutinuos rice cakes wrapped around the mung bean paste in the centre and served on a banana leaf.
Red tortoise cakes are shaped like tortoise to signify longevity and its red colour symbolises good fortune and prosperity. Traditionally, the Chinese would give these red delights to relatives and friends for special occasions 囍 that are culturally important to them such as wedding, newborn baby's first month or birthdays of the elderly.
@carventan_83 I think I should learn from your mum coming my next trip then.
